What a thrill it was to go to QuiltCon this year! The last time the Modern Quilt Guild held an in-person conference was 2019 in Austin. Latifah Saafir was the keynote speaker and artist. She is best know for her Clammy quilt and rulers, but her keynote presentation gave me all the encouragement to continue creating and trusting my crazy ideas.
Hilary Goodwin won Best in Show for her “2020 Vision” quilt. If you look closely, you can see that she hand-quilted words from the year that was 2020 into the quilt.

Here is Ellen, who taught me to quilt when Vincent was a preschooler. It was bittersweet to reconnect with her and to stand with her next to my quilt. Our catch-up was quick, but I’ll always remember that time I worked in her quilt shop.

The Fort Collins Modern Quilt Guild also had a quilt in the show. “Scattered” is our interpretation on 2020. It symbolizes all the ways we meet as a guild: zoom, sew days in the park, each other’s living rooms and backyards. We worked hard to come together to share in our love for creating, and learned new ways of coming together.
